How entries are judged: The e-Citizen community shortlists entries on Discourse. Sealand’s judging panel then selects the winner based on three equal criteria: Fulfilment of the Brief (33.33%), Execution and Clarity (33.33%), and Originality and Value to Sealand (33.33%). Shortlisting is advisory. The panel’s decision is final, subject to the appeals process in T&C section 15.4.

What part of the Appalachian Mountains are you from? I’ve lived in Idaho the last 25 years but I was born and raised in Dickenson County Virginia. It is really neat that someone else whose roots are in the Appalachian Mountains is also a Sealander.
What brought me to Sealand is the incredible story of its independence and the idea that sovereignty can be built with courage and a clear vision. I wanted to be part of a community that values freedom and looks toward a digital future. Becoming an e-Citizen is my way to support this unique legacy.
Sorry I was too clumsy (or lazy ) to record a video of this, but wanted to share anyway.
I discovered Sealand a long time ago in Fabrice O’Driscoll’s book, “Ils ne siègent pas à l’ONU (They don’t sit at the UN)”. I’ve always had a strong interest in constitutional and international law in general (I have degrees in law and political science), but also in the curiosities that arise in this area, such as microstates, unusual borders, binational zones, condominiums… The idea of making a platform in the North Sea a sovereign country, but also a place of media freedom, initially radio, then the internet, has always appealed to me.
I’ve always kept an eye on Sealand, and I recently watched the documentary on Brut. youtube channel and that made me want to become an e-citizen and join the adventure. And so here I am, with some ideas on what Sealand could become, specially in the field of workers’ international mobility and social security, which is my main expertise and professional activity these days… I’ll probably tell you more about it very soon.
I also see Sealand as a vanguard in the redefinition of national and global citizenship, in the redefinition of what can be retained in our often imposed local or national citizenship and what can instead be redefined and better developed in a voluntarily chosen community.
In a world of rigid borders, Sealand stands as a lighthouse of possibility. My journey to becoming an e-Citizen wasn’t just about a title; it was about joining a legacy of independence that started on a platform in the North Sea and now lives in the digital clouds.
To me, Sealand represents the ultimate frontier: where technology meets sovereignty. As a new member of this community, I see us not just as users of a forum, but as pioneers of a new way to belong to a nation—one defined by shared values and courage rather than just land. I’m proud to carry my e-Citizenship as a symbol of a future where freedom has no limits.
Thank you for your submission. At the moment, the link is restricted. To allow Sealand community members to view and vote on your entry without needing to request access, we recommend making it publicly available. Thank you.
